When I first started The Pixie Stand, I wasn’t just trying to make candles. I was looking for something better for my home, my health, and the planet. Like many people, I had shelves full of store-bought candles. They looked nice, but I began to notice the black soot on the jars, the headaches from synthetic fragrances, and how quickly they burned away. That’s when I decided to create something different — candles with a story, candles with intention.
The first thing I learned was how different soy wax is from paraffin. Paraffin, the wax used in most store-bought candles, is a petroleum byproduct that can release toxins when burned. Soy wax, on the other hand, is natural, renewable, and burns cleaner. For me, it was important to make a candle I could feel good about burning in my own living room — one that wouldn’t compromise my health or the air my family breathes.
I also wanted value that went beyond price. One of the most frustrating things about store-bought candles was how quickly they burned down. Soy wax burns slower, which means my candles last much longer. I pair it with cotton-based, clean-burning wicks designed to keep the flame steady and reduce smoke. The result is a candle that gives you more hours of steady light and fragrance.
Scent has always been central to my candle-making. Many mass-produced candles blast you with fragrance at first, only to fade into something artificial. I wanted my candles to feel authentic, so I chose high-quality fragrance oils that are phthalate-free and true-to-scent. The result is a fragrance that fills a room naturally, evenly, and without being overwhelming — the kind of scent that lingers in memory long after the flame is out.
Part of my vision for The Pixie Stand was to make choices that respect the earth. Soy is plant-based and biodegradable, unlike paraffin. Each time I pour a candle, I know I’m offering not just ambiance, but also a sustainable choice. Small changes — like choosing soy instead of petroleum-based wax — add up to something bigger, especially when we all make them together.
Every candle I make is hand-poured in small batches. That means no machines, no assembly lines — just patience, precision, and care. I place the wick myself, stir the fragrance into the wax by hand, and make sure each candle is finished to the highest standard. It’s not the fastest way to make candles, but it’s the right way. And I believe you can feel that difference when you light one.
I know my candles aren’t the cheapest on the shelf, and I don’t want them to be. The price reflects the quality of the soy wax, the clean-burning wicks, the safe, true-to-scent fragrance oils, and the time it takes to craft them by hand. But beyond materials and labor, the value comes from what you don’t get with store-bought candles: soot, toxins, short burn times, and generic mass production.
When you bring home a Pixie Stand candle, you’re not just buying light. You’re choosing cleaner air, longer enjoyment, a sustainable product, and the story of a candle made with care. That’s something a mass-produced candle simply can’t offer.
The Pixie Stand is my way of sharing something meaningful — candles that are safe, sustainable, and made with love. When you light one, I hope you feel the difference, not just in the fragrance and the glow, but in knowing you’ve chosen something crafted with intention.
If you’re ready to experience that difference, I invite you to explore my collection. Bring home a candle that tells a story worth sharing — from my hands to your home.
